Grindleford Baslow Froggat

A walk in two halves.

The outbound leg is down in the valley bottom, and the return on the high ground of Curbar and Froggatt Edges.
Park in the National Trust P&D car park at Haywood, and drop down the valley side through the trees to the valley bottom at Grindleford Bridge.
Go left and follow the path through the fields, and a short stretch back in the wood, following the line of the River Derwent towards Derwent Farm.
Pass through the farm, and onwards to cross the road by Froggatt Bridge, and staying on the eastern side follow the river's edge to New Bridge.
Cross the bridge, and go left past the old mill buildings and follow the path towards, and then through Stocking Farm camp site until you reach the outskirts of Calver.
Pass under the underpass and stay on the path until you reach the outskirts of Baslow in Bubnell.
Pass over the bridge into Baslow itself, and on reaching the main road turn right for a short while before following the side road uphill.
Stay on this road past the primary school, and the small supermarket before entering an old byway at the top of Baslow.
The hard work is just starting!
Follow the old byway (Bar Road) all the way up to the top of the hill.
Once at the top, Wellington's Monument is only a short diversion to your right, otherwise follow the main track round the left to the road, and car park across the top of Baslow Edge.
If you are lucky, the ice-cream van might be in attendence!
Crossing the road, pick up the track again along Curbar Edge which becomes Froggatt Edge before eventually crossing the road and re-entering the car park where you started.
The Grouse Inn is but a short meander away for some well deserved refreshments.
