Offerton Hall

A nice, short, late afternoon circuit along the River Derwent up to Offerton Hall and return along the edge of Offerton Moor.

We parked in a small layby at the edge of Shatton village in Hope Valley.
Heading easterly we followed the River Derwent downstream, on the Derwent Valley Heritage Way, until we came to the stepping stones that would take us to Hathersage, if we so chose.
Instead, turning away from the river we headed up hill and passed through Offerton, admiring the splendid buildings of Offerton House, and Offerton Hall.
We then picked up a fine path that took us west across the bottom of Offerton Moor, and across the top of Glover Bank, until we came out on the access road to Shatton Mast, which is also an old byway.
We followed the road downhill back down to Shatton, with a small diversion to the ford to wash the mud off our boots.
